Winfield Figure Skating Club - Programs for 2024-2025
PreCanSkate - is a learn to skate program for very young beginners (ages 3-5). Basic skating skills are introduced in a fun way using the CanSkate program. Individual progress reports are given at the end of the season. It is recommended that skaters are able to stand and walk in their skates off-ice before registering.
CanSkate Program -is open to all children ages 4 and up. Program covers all basic skating skills – forward and backward skating, crossovers with turns and edges, and stopping. This fun program uses circuits and stations to teach and practice skills. Also used are music, teaching aids, props, and incentives (Canskate badges, stickers, and stamps.) Individual progress reports are given at the end of the season.
Junior StarSkate–This session is a program for advanced CanSkaters. This sessions is conducted in a group format with some individual practice time. Skaters will learn more advanced skills and be introduced to figure skating.
Teen Plus Beginner -is a beginning skating program adapting the Canskate program to meet the needs/interests of teens and adults. Skaters wishing to also learn figure skating skills at a beginner level are invited to join this program!
Intermediate StarSkate - This Program is for skaters working on the Star 1-2 level of figure skating. It offers an introduction to figure skating skills in both a group and private lesson format - stroking, spins, jumps, footwork, and artistic solo development. Skaters are introduced to the Skate Canada skills and dance program. Testing is available for the Skate Canada test system and some skaters will have the opportunity to enter competitions. Private lessons are available at an extra cost.
Senior StarSkate - This program is for skaters working on the Star 3-10 levels of figure skating. It is a Skate Canada program that teaches more advanced stroking, Free Skating, skating skills, dance instruction, and off- ice training. This program opens up the world of competition to the recreational skater, with the goal that the skater will develop skills that will allow them to participate in the sport of figure skating for a life time of fun. Skaters can progress through the Skate Canada FreeSkate, Skills, and Dance programs. Testing is available for skaters to advance through the Skate Canada test system. Club coaches provide group stroking sessions which are included in the registration fee. Private lessons are available at an extra cost.
StarSkate Synchronized Skating - Synchronized Skating introduces skaters to the world of teamwork and a very different and unique style of skating. It is a fantastic way to develop skating skills and sportsmanship while working together to perform formations and routines. Synchro is an exciting, growing, team sport!
Mixed Session - is a shorter session including a variety of figure skating disciplines; including Skills, Dance, and FreeSkate. This program allows skaters to work toward Skate Canada tests and competition. Skaters need strong skating skills- recommended for teens and adults at the Star 3+ Level. Private lessons available at an additional cost.
Adult Daytime - is a session for our advanced adult figure skaters which takes place during the day (days and time TBA). This program allows skaters to work toward Skate Canada tests and competition.
Please Note: All skaters must have their own skates and mitts/gloves. CanSkaters, Juniors, and Teen Plus skaters must also have their own hockey helmets. No skating aids (ie. support bars) are needed. Sorry, we do not rent skates.
Refund Policy:
- All skaters must pay a $60 Skate Canada fee once per year. This fee is non-refundable.
- If a skater withdraws before their fourth class, a refund may be issued minus the $60 Skate Canada fee and a $20 service fee. The skater must notify the club in writing or by email.
- If a skater must miss more than two consecutive weeks of skating for a medical reason, a partial refund for unused ice time may be issued if a doctor's note is presented. There will be a $20 processing fee.
